The Monoposto Racing F.A.S.T. Program

Monoposto Racing started the unique FAST program (Funds Awarded for Safety and Travel) seven years ago. The program recognizes and rewards both safe racing and regular attendance at MR Race Series events. During the past seven years almost $70,000 has been distributed to those MR Race Series participants who have qualified. The Board has allocated a minimum of $10,000 to fund the 1998 FAST program.

To qualify for FAST a MR Race Series member must participate in at least four rounds of the Series and be free of any on-track contact incident for which the member is accountable.

Using a computer tracking system, the miles from the entrants' home to the race event are calculated over the course of the year. Using a formula based on mileage and number of eligible entrants, the annual $10,000 FAST Fund is distributed on a pro-rata basis. FAST Fund checks to members have ranged from $235.00 to over $1,000.00, based on this formula.

As in past years, to be eligible for FAST payments at the end of the 1998 season, Race Series participants must race at four of the Series events and finish the year without an on-track contact incident for which the member is accountable. A driver listed on the VMC 13/13 report would automatically be excluded. Final decisions concerning questionable driving indiscretions are made by MR based on reports submitted by the MR event coordinator and others.

The sponsors who contributed to FAST in 1997 were: Historic Sportscar Racing, Ltd.; VSCDA; Vintage Tyres Ltd.; Joe Sexton; MarkVII Equipment, Inc.; Lead Motorsports; Taylor Race Engineering; Alan Baillie of England; Baurle Auto Sport; Jefferson 500; Lotus Lane; Bary L. Marquardt; and, Mosport.

The Monoposto Racing FAST program remains unique to vintage racing and helps create maximum and safe racing fields at each of the Race Series rounds.
